The title essay revisits the origin of analytical psychology when two dreamers, (Freud and Jung) were in the heart of seas, a mismeeting with lasting implications for both psychoanalysis and depth psychology.<\/p>\n<p>Another essay gives an extraordinary and unique account of Naomi Nir\u2019s analyses, first with Erich Neumann and later with Emma Jung, based on her intimate, if tormented, journal. A pivotal chapter, \u201cWho is my Jung?\u201d\u00a0 explores author\u2019s relationship to Jung the person and his theory and introduces the concept of \u201cJung image.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later chapters discuss unique challenges of working in the holy land, such as \u201cDoing analysis in the Shadow of Terror\u201d or \u201cWorking with a Palestinian patient on Israel Memorial Day\u201d as well clinical implications of Israeli cultural complexes. Three chapters explore archetypal themes of the \u201cWise old sage,\u201d \u201cWho is a friend?\u201d and explores tensions and splits in Training Institutes via a remarkable Talmudic narrative. Specific chapters explore core, if often neglected, issues in doing analysis, such as \u201cWhen is it time to end?\u201d, \u201cIllness in the analyst\u201d and Confronting Death.<\/p>\n<p>Other essays reveal little known Jewish traditions of dreaming and active imagination, as well as case studies of Biblical healers such as Daniel and Elisha. These chapters have a special Jungian twist in that most begin (and end) with an active imagination.
