Mystery writers\u00a0 hope to discover or unlock these long-buried historical secret while researching\u00a0 their novels. With themes ranging from Egyptology, medieval alchemy, lost paintings, wars, scientific discoveries and any other significant moments from the distant past, many popular mysteries have taken the literary world by storm and ignited an interest in history.<\/p>\n<p>So there is an intimate relationship between history and mystery fiction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The London Centre for Arts-Based Research is now accepting proposals for papers and panels for its first \u201cMysteries and Histories\u201d conference, to take place at <em>The Court House Residency<\/em> in Martock, Somerset, a marvelous location which in itself is rich with history and mysteries!<\/p>\n<p>We welcome 15-minute presentations (academic and\/or creative) that reflect this theme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars, creatives, bookworms, writers, postgraduate students, and other professionals to explore and discuss the relationship between history and mystery writing.<\/p>\n<p>Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mysteries in audiobooks<\/li>\n<li>Humour in mysteries and historical fiction<\/li>\n<li>Time travel in mystery writing<\/li>\n<li>Whodunits in historical settings<\/li>\n<li>Biographical mysteries<\/li>\n<li>Paranormal and supernatural elements in histories and mystery fiction<\/li>\n<li>History\/mystery writing for the screen and theatre<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTruth\u201d in historical non-fiction<\/li>\n<li>Famous \u201cmystery\u201d historical figures and their adaptation in contemporary writing<\/li>\n<li>Special themes in historical mysteries<\/li>\n<li>The writing process (of mystery writing, historical fiction, and historical nonfiction)<\/li>\n<li>Research and data collection for creative writers (forensics, police, psychology etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Psychological thrillers<\/li>\n<li>Pop mysteries<\/li>\n<li>Literary classics in mystery and detective fiction<\/li>\n<li>Representations of detectives and other significant characters in mystery writing<\/li>\n<li>Film adaptations of both mystery and historical fiction<\/li>\n<li>The cozy murder mystery (and other subgenres of detective fiction)<\/li>\n<li>The mind in writer and\/or reader mode (for historical mysteries)<\/li>\n<li>Latest trends in detective fiction\/historical fiction<\/li>\n<li>Art and history in mystery writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Presenters can\u00a0 share papers and\/or creative work, as we highly encourage arts-based research.
