His \u201cshort history of the archetype\u201d has mistakenly been regarded as an account of from where he derived the concept. We now know, as his audience then did not, that Jung\u2019s concept of archetype derives from his visionary experiences of which\u00a0<em>Liber Novus<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<em>Black Books<\/em>\u00a0are the record. By tracing back the concepts to their origins we can now re-establish Jung\u2019s meaning. In 1928, as the visions recorded in\u00a0<em>Black Book 7<\/em>\u00a0were drawing to their close, Jung published\u00a0<em>The Relations Between the Ego and the Unconscious<\/em>, a major revision of his 1916 conceptual work\u00a0<em>The Psychology of the Unconscious Processes<\/em>. The task of this seminar will be to trace back Jung\u2019s conceptual formulations of \u2018archetype\u2019 and \u2018collective unconscious\u2019 through these early works to their\u00a0<em>Liber Novus\u00a0<\/em>origins in order to establish what Jung meant by these new terms.
