We hope you can join us starting on January 12, 2025 when Mary Marx will begin leading us through a discussion of David Miller\u2019s book,\u00a0The New Polytheism<\/em>. David Miller is a well-loved teacher (Syracuse and Pacifica) and widely published author in religion, myth, depth psychology, and literary theory. According to Miller, monotheism wants everyone\u2019s \u201cexplanation systems (e.g., theological, historical, psychological) under one all-embracing system \u2026 a single center that holds things together.\u201d In contrast, polytheistic thinking frees us from having \u201cto get it all together.\u201d It is Miller\u2019s premise that the \u201cpsyche\u201d is polytheistic, with \u201cmultiple potencies, and structures of meaning and being.\u201d As such, this approach better matches the plurality of our lived experience.<\/p>\n
