This seminar explores CG Jung’s concept of the Animus within the female psyche, with special attention to the \u201ccultural repression of the manifestation of the Animus\u201d and its role in the individuation process. Along with the recognition of the masculine aspect within the psyche of women \u2014\u201clong before the Women’s Lib movement existed\u201d, as Marie-Louise von Franz points out in The Cat: A Tale of Feminine Redemption\u2014 Jung opened a path to understanding individuation, in which awareness of the manifestations of the Animus and the Anima plays an essential role. The Animus exerts a significant influence on a woman’s life, as well as on the inner development through which the personality advances towards greater wholeness and integration.The manifestation of the Animus archetype is shaped by numerous factors: internal, psychic and external. Among them, culture and cultural complexes take on particular importance, although their influence often remains largely unconscious. In this conference, the \u201crepression of the manifestation of the Animus\u201d will be considered as a specific cultural complex characteristic of collectivist cultures.
