‘Gaia,’ who was once the Mother Goddess Earth in Ancient Greece, has come back into our consciousness through the physicist James Lovelock’s ‘Gaia Hypothesis’, which proposed that Earth was a self-regulating system – that is, a Living Being. The film traces – through art, poetry, and the changing philosophies of the human relation to our Earth – how the instinctive union with all life gradually diminished over the centuries – culminating in the so-called ‘Age of Enlightenment’ when the human mind defined itself as superior to the source of its being.
