‘Murray Stein, Ph.D., is a Jungian psychoanalyst, author, writer, lecturer and playwright who works as a supervising and training analyst at the International School of Analytical Psychology in Z\u00fcrich, Switzerland.<\/p>\n
He holds a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School and graduated as a Jungian psychoanalyst from the original C.G. Jung Institute in Z\u00fcrich. He worked as a managing editor for James Hillman\u2019s Spring Publications and later went on to co-found Chiron Publications with fellow Jungian analyst Dr. Nathan Schwartz-Salant (Ep. 26).<\/p>\n
While establishing himself as a training analyst in Chicago, he attended the University of Chicago Divinity School and earned a Ph.D. in religion and psychological studies. He is a founding member of the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago, was elected its first president, and served for five years as head of the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts. He is a past president of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and has traveled and lectured for them across the globe. Upon relocating to Switzerland, he became a training and supervising analyst for the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAPZURICH), served as its president, and continues to chair its Z\u00fcrich Lecture Series.<\/p>\n
He is the author, co-author, editor, and co-editor of numerous books, articles, essays, and stage plays, all of which are listed in the special Murray Stein section of our Blog. In 2020, Chiron began publishing his Collected Writings, with the tenth volume released in December. He continues to write plays with friend and fellow Jungian analyst Dr. Henry Abramovitch (Ep. 47 & 126), their most recent collaborations being ‘Reading Room’ and ‘Twilight at Bollingen.’ His most popular book, Jung\u2019s Map of the Soul: An Introduction, published in 1998, has been translated into 13 languages. He has also written a companion volume, subtitled Deeper Explorations, released on May 18th by Chiron Publications. <\/p>\n
