The University of Essex’s Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies<\/em> hosts a book discussion on Wednesday June 17. The subject is The Second Handbook of Jungian Psychology: Theory, Practice and Applications<\/em><\/a>, edited by Renos K. Papadopoulos and Stephen Garratt and recently published by Routledge- a landmark volume in analytical psychology scholarship, with a foreword by Andrew Samuels.<\/p>\n

Nearly two decades after its predecessor became a cornerstone reference for analysts, therapists, and scholars, this new volume gathers contributions from some of the most significant voices in contemporary analytical psychology. Its eighteen chapters span three broad sections of theory, psychotherapy, and applications. Sonu Shamdasani opens with a reflection on Jung’s Liber Novus<\/em> and its continuing clinical significance. Other contributors address the shadow and its relationship to alterity and colonial bias (Papadopoulos), the body and embodied active imagination (Fleischer), dream theory in dialogue with contemporary neuroscience (Roessler), social inequality and the limits of individual psychology (Kiehl), colonialism and the decolonisation of Jungian theory (Garratt), and the extension of analytical psychology into digital culture and film (Singh). The discussion on June 17 brings together three of its contributors. Renos Papadopoulos will speak to his chapter on Jung’s shadow concept and its relationship to theories of the Other. Ann Addison will address questions around transference. And Orsolya Lukacs will discuss fields of application including ecopsychology and climate change<\/p>\n
