Our name\u00a0CENTERPOINT\u00a0was taken from a statement by Dr. Esther Harding at a conference called \u201cThe Cross as Archetypal Symbol\u201d sponsored by The Educational Center in 1970. She said that while opposites repel, they also attract each other, and \u2026 are held together by a tiny point that is the center of the cross. She said of this point:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the individual core in us that cannot resolve a moral problem by conventional standards. It is that weak, yet strong point in us that will not be swayed by the multitude. But in order to find this central core of Selfness one has to undertake the arduous and dangerous responsibility of thinking for oneself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Dr. Thomas B. Kirsch, describing the\u00a0history\u00a0and impact of our Centerpoint in his\u00a0book The Jungians<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0writes\u00a0in his \u201cAfter 1970\u201d Chapter:<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026small institutes and study groups \u2026\u00a0\u00a0all across the country \u2026 formed around a central organization called\u00a0Centerpoint<\/em>, which had the endorsement and encouragement of Esther Harding and Edward Edinger. \u2026 where Jung and other Jungian authors would be read and discussed. \u2026 It is important to note that many thousands of Americans have been introduced to the writings of Jung and Jungians through Centerpoint.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
