Annine says: “Recently feminist theologists have been questioning the historicity of Mary Magdalene. Could she be a composite figure, composed of several other Marys, for example Mary of Bethany and Mary the mother of Jesus? What is the viewpoint of spiritual women studies?
In my book I compare the Gospel of the Beloved Disciple, attributed to John, with the Gospel of the Beloved Companion, recently given back to the world in 2010 and quite possibly written before the year 50 AD by Mary Magdalene herself. In this document she introduces herself as Miryam the Migdalah and as the Beloved Companion of Yeshua. She presents herself as his wife, as an eyewitness and author. Crucial statements of the Beloved Companion or Miryam in her texts seem to be omitted in the Gospel of the Beloved Disciple or ‘John’ that underwent a second redaction around 90 AD. Miryam’s Gospel brings revolutionary insights about her leadership of the disciples after the resurrection of Jesus. It is the missing link that brings all the broken pieces of her shattered image together. In this lecture I will restore her broken image.
Join us for an English lecture about Dr Annine van der Meer’s Dutch book Maria Magdalena ontsluierd. Verborgen bronnen herstellen haar geschonden beeld, published in February 2021. The English translation is in preparation and is entitled: Mary Magdalene Unveiled. Hidden sources restore her disfigured image.“
