Us & Them: When the Shadow Rules

Join us as we identify an aspect of the psyche that lurks in our unconscious – a part that we don’t want to see, own, or show to the world. Carl Jung refers to this aspect of personality that is repressed, disowned, or despised as the archetype of the shadow, and recognized that if the shadow in our psyche overruns the value of diversity, we run the risk of dividing the world into “Us” and “Them.” In this workshop with Don Streit, we’ll learn playful ways to recognize Shadow characteristics in ourselves, and discover how doing so can lead to a greater valuation of difference and diversity, and even facilitate reconciliation between people of diverse thought, beliefs, ethnic origins, and values. Join us as we locate our own shadowy areas, acknowledge how these parts of ourselves end up in the world around us, and embark on the urgent and timely endeavor of devising a path towards a more compassionate consideration of those around us.
