BJAA colleagues, and IPCAPA trainees in the Jungian stream, are invited to attend our annual winter gathering, which will include a members’ meeting, a presentation by PhD student Rui Shi, titled: Cultural Homelessness: Migrant Children in China, followed by a shared lunch.
Cultural Homelessness: Migrant Children in China. PhD Student Rui Shi writes:
I have been meeting with Chinese migrant children between the ages of 6 and 15, inviting them to do a House-Tree-Person drawing (a well-established psychological testing tool). In a subsequent meeting I asked them to tell me a dream and to draw the dream if they wished to do so. I am analyzing the drawings using the HTP practical handbook.
A key element of my research is to discover whether considering the images from a Jungian perspective can bring out insights and interpretations that are not accessible using the HTP approach. This sort of comparison between the two psychologies has not been previously attempted. It has the potential of strengthening the role of analytical psychology in university research programmes.
I would find it very valuable to hear the responses of a gathering of Jungian analysts to the children’s material. I will briefly introduce the situation of migrant children in China and then I will present the drawings and dreams of four children. I look forward to a lively discussion.”
