This monograph seeks to read the chemical dependency from the short story João e Maria, in the Jungian analytical perspective, extracting from the story a symbolic look at the psychic dynamics of the addiction. To this end, the author, clinical psychologist, specialist in Jungian analytical psychology, with experience in treating men and women with a history of abusive and harmful use of alcohol and other drugs, presents the reader with the Jungian analytical perspective of Fairy Tales and he uses a case attended in his professional career to illustrate the therapeutic process of the individual who uses some psychoactive substance. Therefore, these similarities will be established between the short story, the case and the dynamics of chemical dependency.
