Alchemy and Jung

For C. G. Jung, what the modern psychotherapists see in their patients’ psyche, the alchemist saw in chemical form. Alchemy, therefore, is a precursor of the modern study of the unconscious. It provided, and as a metaphor continues to provide, a historical model to see the process of individuation or transformation of human personality in practice.
