British Object Relations II: Advanced Clinical Issues program

In this course, we will be extending the study of British Object Relations theory into the specifics of clinical work with patients. We will consider and discuss such topics as analytic listening, the clinical use of transference and countertransference phenomena, disclosure, formulating and responding to dilemmas and enactments, the ubiquity of narcissism, and conscious and unconscious levels of communication in the analytical process. Readings will accompany each topic and focus on authors such as Coltart, Joseph and Searles, as well as drawing from the material and format of the Clinical Moments project written about by Tuch and Kuttnauer. Clinical material will make up a portion of each class, and will be presented by instructors and students, and it will be expected that each student will present verbatim material from a session. Participants need to be in clinical practice and completion of BOR I or prior permission of the instructors is required.
