Friday Lecture
Considering the popularity of Netlix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s magisterial series, The Sandman, it is an opportune moment to not only reflect on the archetypal elements of the story, but to explore new perspectives that could help critical audiences further appreciate the story’s timeless quality. In this presentation, I argue that it is Gaiman’s uncanny ability to honour psyche- in all it’s complexity- that makes the series so memorable.
Saturday Workshop
Psychoanalysis offers us an invaluable framework to guide us in the understanding of the strange and sometimes frightening encounters we have when visiting the dream realm. Jungian Theory is uniquely useful when it comes to navigating “The Dreaming” and the archetypes we encounter there, so brilliantly mythologised in The Sandman In this workshop we will consider a few of these ideas and tools from Jungian psychology that can illuminate our nightly sojours into Morpheus’ Realm.
