‘“Outsider Art” was coined by Roger Cardinal, an English critic in the book Outsider Art, which was published in 1972. The Outsider Art Fair was founded in New York by Sanford L. Smith in 1993. Outsider Art has existed as a phenomenon in contemporary popular culture for only half a century. In this episode of the podcast I am speaking with Jungian analyst Michael Vannoy Adams about Outsider Art. Michael Vannoy Adams is a Jungian psychoanalyst in New York City. He has been a clinical associate professor at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He is also a faculty member at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and the New School, where he was previously associate provost. He is the author of four books and has been a Marshall scholar in England and a Fulbright senior lecturer in India.’.
