The 7th International Analysis and Activism Conference takes place October 29 – November 1 in Mexico City, marking the first time this gathering has been held in Latin America. This year’s theme, “Transcending Divisions: Borders, Identity, and the Rekindling of Our Shared Humanity,” responds directly to the global resurgence of authoritarianism, hardened borders, and anti-immigrant sentiment, drawing on the work of Jung, James Hillman, Carlos Fuentes, and Gloria Anzaldúa.
Organised in collaboration with the Sociedad Mexicana C.G. Jung, the conference brings together voices from analytical psychology, culture, and activism for a weekend of dialogue on how borders, both inner and outer, shape psyche and collective life. Andrew Samuels, a co-founder of Analysis and Activism, tells us more about the organisation as well as the conference in a newly released video. Unlike typical political or professional groups where participants share the same political views or background, Analysis and Activism brings together psychotherapists who often hold vastly different political perspectives on key global issues such as democracy, freedom, the environment, and ongoing conflicts.
Samuels emphasises that while the conference will not instantly resolve deep-seated issues like Western dominance, whiteness, or academic elitism, it offers an exceptionally open and vital platform for candid conversations about topics such as race, power dynamics, trans issues, and the Israel-Palestine conflict.
