Monarchy: Symbol and Shadow

Inspired by the coronation of King Charles III, we use the perspectives of analytical psychology to ask: ‘Is monarchy still a living symbol?’

The late Queen, Elizabeth II, was reputed to be the most dreamt about figure in the world. And as well as attracting contemporary media attention, royal images have appeared across the centuries in art, literature, song, fairy tales and alchemical texts.

This workshop will explore some of these rich sources as we reflect together on the enduring power and fascination that the archetype of monarchy — and its shadow — hold, along with their meaning for individuals, society and the body politic today.
