Jung writes often of the problem of “modern man,” as in the title of his book of 1933, Modern Man in Search of a Soul, which includes the essay of 1931, “The Spiritual Problem of Modern Man.” In this course, I will discuss Jung’s diagnosis of the problem, his strategies for treatment, and his prognosis for the future. For “modern man,” the problem is both psychological and spiritual, therefore psychology and spirituality must find a common basis for the mental health of human beings.
