Individuation, Transformation, and the Ways to the Self

What are the core ideas that shape Murray Stein’s contribution to analytical psychology, and why do they remain so vital today? Our first Psychosocial Wednesday of 2026 will feature Murray Stein in conversation with Steven Herrmann (author) and Stefano Carpani (series editor) to mark the publication of a new book dedicated to Stein’s life and work. This volume inaugurates the Routledge Introductions to Contemporary Analytical Psychology and Neo-Jungian Studies series and explores key dimensions of Stein’s thinking—among them conscience, individuation, transformation, analytical training, Jung’s engagement with Christianity, and The Red Book. Together, these themes illuminate the enduring relevance of Stein’s work for contemporary analytical practice.

  • Brief Overview

More than a century ago, Freud gathered colleagues for Wednesday meetings that opened the world of psychoanalysis to a wide range of powerful ideas. Psychosocial Wednesdays are modeled on those Wednesdays and on Jung´s meetings at the Psychological Club, and feature speakers from various psychoanalytic traditions, schools, and associated fields.
