As with the individual, only a profound crisis can bring about in the collective what is deeply repugnant to reason: a rethinking and a serious connection to irrational, archetypal truths, such as those that dreams still convey to us today. This by no means implies, however, that we should close ourselves off to modern knowledge with all its magnificent insights, which, incidentally, have often been inspired by dreams. Rather, it means that in the future we must utilize both sources to solve our pressing problems: our modern, enlightened intellect and our modern knowledge, combined with our traditional knowledge of the creative and future-oriented richness of our inner life.
