This book examines potential resonances between the works of Carl Jung and Wilfred Bion, in the context of mutual formative influences, congruent interests and their respective psychoanalytic writings.

It has long been acknowledged that, in 1935, Bion at the outset of his psychoanalytic career attended the Tavistock Lectures given by Jung at The Institute of Medical Psychology. This, along with new evidence of annotations made by Bion in a copy of Jung’s Memories, Dreams, Reflections, is sparking interest in the exploration and study of conceptual comparisons between the work and ideas of these two key psychoanalytic thinkers. This book questions the extent to which they may have carved out divergent but overlapping spheres within their conceptualisations and discusses possible factors which may have been at play in any such areas of overlap.

This new book will be of interest to practitioners, scholars and students alike, within the fields of analytical psychology and psychoanalysis and to all who have an interest in the ideas of Carl Jung and Wilfred Bion.
