This event draws upon the film Help me Love my Baby, a documentary about a mother and baby filmed at the Anna Freud Centre for Channel 4. The documentary looks in detail at the impact of the experience of earlier traumas upon the relationship of mother and baby, and the way in which the mother is helped to unpack what may have been reawakened in her by the birth of her baby.
Clips from the film will form the basis for our discussion focusing on what happens when a parent is not able to feel love for their new baby. We will look at the impact that this can have on the infant (as a baby, toddler, child, adolescent and adult) as well as the parent.
