The interrelation between two types of homesickness is discussed through the following alchemical operations: mortificatio, calcinatio, solutio, coagulatio, separatio, sublimatio and coniunctio. During the elaboration of the loss, two forces fight in the opposite direction: on the one hand, death is a natural stage of life for the unconscious; on the other hand, for the conscious, at least in our Western culture, death is felt as an interruption of life.
