Artificial intelligence is reshaping the world at a pace that few predicted and fewer still feel equipped to respond to. For Jungian analysts and analytical psychologists, the question presents technological or ethical considerations, but also a depth psychological one. What is the spirit of this moment? What archetypal forces are at work? And what resources does analytical psychology offer as we navigate one of the defining challenges of our time?
These are the questions at the heart of Archetypes in the Machine: Jungian Analysis and AI, a half-day online conference taking place on June 27, 2026.
The event brings together four speakers, each approaching the topic from a distinct angle. Stephen Garratt opens with an accessible account of what AI actually is and how rapidly it is developing, grounding the conversation in the reality of the technology before the deeper psychological exploration begins. Patrycja Jackson follows with an astrological and cultural reading of this epochal moment, situating the emergence of AI within the broader spirit of the times. Orsolya Lukács then explores the archetypal and imaginal dimensions of AI, drawing on myths of the “other” to ask what analytical psychology’s rich tradition of engaging with the non-human might offer us here. Richard Jenkins closes the presentations with a reading of Jung’s own encounters with non-human intelligences in the Red and Black Books, alongside the story of John Dee, as a source of archetypal and imaginal resources for our current moment.
Each presentation runs approximately thirty minutes and is followed by open discussion, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with the ideas being presented. The event concludes with a forward-looking conversation about next steps and the possibility of forming a community of continuing interest around these themes.
The conference is fully online and will be recorded and made available to all registered participants. Tickets are priced at £30 for AJA members and £45 for non-members. Organised for Jungian analysts, analytical psychologists, and allied practitioners, the event is open to anyone curious about the intersection of depth psychology and artificial intelligence. No prior knowledge of AI is required.
Whether you are a seasoned analyst grappling with AI’s implications for clinical practice, or simply someone who feels the weight of this moment and wants to think about it more carefully, this event offers a rare opportunity to do so in the company of others who take both the psychological and the technological seriously.
Registration is open and you can do so here.
