The Book of Invasions contains stories about the series of invasions that constitute the mythic founding of Ireland. They are great stories, marvelous and mysterious, well worth hearing just for themselves. Moreover, by reading them through a Jungian lens, we can feel how they can be tied to psychological invasions and foundational processes, the experience of coming into being.
I first spoke about The Book of Invasions at a seminar in Ireland – appropriately enough – sponsored by the New York Center for Jungian Studies. They said of the discussion that it revealed the imagination of the early Celts, as well as our own experiences of being invaded by thoughts, situations, and projections.
