The Internet has taken the late twentieth century by storm and now exists as a collective psyche with its shadow world of dark web energies. But if the medium is the message, then what are some of the archetypes that define its electronic forms?
We will examine the myths of Proteus, Hermes, and Hecate as exemplars of electrical flux and changeability, messaging and deception. We will explore how these myths enact the creative and destructive energies Jung argued were the basic conditions of the psyche. We will consider what the internet’s latest evolution into AI implies about its sentience and capacity for autonomy.
