For most of Christian history, followers of Jesus focused almost exclusively on his divine identity. In recent decades, theologians began discussing Jesus as a historical figure. Yet, until now, hardly anyone has explored Jesus’ psychological and spiritual awareness. What does St. Paul mean when he maintains that we have “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16)? What is “the mind of Christ,” anyway, and what practices and perspectives might help us to experience it ourselves?
Following a trail of scripture sayings and stories, as well as the teachings of ancient Christian mystics, Dr. Jonas explores the possibility that any of us can discover and awaken the mind (Greek: nous) of Christ. In his forthcoming book, My Dear Far-Nearness, Jonas suggests that Jesus’ consciousness circulated in three portals of knowing that are both trinitarian and non-dual — and that, with practice, all of us can learn to awaken this human-divine awareness.
