C.G. Jung’s Red Book: Journey of the Soul will explore Liber Novus, as Jung titled the work, which recounts and comments on his imaginative experiences between 1913 and 1916. The elaborately illustrated Red Book, complete with hand-illuminated text and astounding artwork, tells the story of how Jung discovers his soul and thus brings meaning to his life. Through this journey into his own unconscious, Jung was introduced to many ideas that later became “Jungian” psychology.
The workshop will explore this fascinating work by discussing four topics as they relate to the Red Book: (1) Art history and imagery sources, (2) major concepts influencing the Red Book, (3) analysis of text and images, and (4) analysis of transpersonal art images created by the presenter, Jim Slouffman.
Our learning experience will be supported by use of images from the Red Book and quotes by C.G. Jung and other Red Book authorities. We will also explore the creative process in a personal way and see how it relates to Jung’s own process by presenting and discussing Jim Slouffman’s art images in his Green Book.
