Bess Park invites you to journey with her through an original 11-minute improvisational dance video that evolved over a year during COVID and the writing of her dissertation on the Numinous in Performance. As a crucial part of her arts-informed approaches to research, the video explores how moving, fluctuating bricolages might serve to investigate the depth psychological notion of the soul as a multiplicity of our inner embodied, pathological selves. Participants will hear Bess describe her process of working with dreams, mandalas, poetry, movement, and film transparencies as ways of invoking and engaging with the emergent phenomenon of the expressive soul of the artist that reveals itself as ineffable, mysterious, mystical, and even sacred. After an introduction to the work, we will watch the 11-minute video together, followed by an invitation for comment, conversation, discussion, and Q&A.
