Envy’s Eye

Envy is misunderstood. It can be mistaken as anger, greed, jealousy, power-mongering, sadness, inferiority, resentment. It is often related to all of these actors, maybe even as their parent much of the time. Identifying its true face, as for any complex, however, is necessary for understanding its power and its destructive tendencies. Like any complex, if it isn’t fully dismantled and recognized, it continues to have power over us. It can’t be assimilated and integrated into the whole of who we are. Its identity points the way toward something with potential and can enhance our lives if it is recognized and understood. The current state of political and cultural strife could take some lessons from envy.
