The seminar will introduce Neumann’s theory of early life, including conceptualization and terminology. Some of the areas to be covered include the stages of ego development during childhood, the establishment of the ego-Self axis throughout the primal relationship, as well as the possible disturbances and pathologies. We will describe the development of child analysis within the Jungian circle, including the complementarity between Neumann’s and Fordham’s approaches to child development. Utilizing case material, we will discuss the application of Neumann’s theory to the practice of child analysis.
