Rebel Angel is a film about the evanescent cultural figure Ross Woodman (1922-2014) which also features Jungian author Marion Woodman and their extraordinary marriage. Woodman played a key role in the regionalist art scene in London, Ontario in the 1960s. A champion of creative imagination, he was also a passionately original interpreter of depth psychology in the context of his profound knowledge of world literature and religions. His pure artistry as a lecturer made him unforgettable, life changing. Through the prism of his deeply troubled life, the film explores the dynamic between creativity and madness in movies, poetry and art.

Greg Mogenson writes ” “The well-known Jungian analyst, Marion Woodman, was an early member of the IRSJA. Her husband, Ross Woodman, an English Professor who made many contributions to Jungian psychology, is the subject of the film, titled “Rebel Angel.” Ross and Marion lived in my city, London, Ontario, and were close friends of mine—Ross my best friend—for more than two decades. Marion was also one of my supervisors during my own training. The film has much footage of both Ross and Marion and gives an interesting look at the symbolic life that they as Jungians led together. It is a full-length, highly-produced work, that is a very faithful to its subject matter. It includes interviews with friends and colleagues, including myself. Marion’s brother, Fraser Boa, who was also an early member of the IRSJA, is also referenced in the film.”
