In Greek Mythology, sirens are mermaids. The allure of their voices and beauty is so strong, that it casts a spell, drawing men to them into the sea. The myth centers on the search for the female space and voice, dealing with sexuality, knowledge and expression. At its core is the contrast between the sea and the land, an allegory for the contrast between the female and the male, between being silenced and having a voice. The course seeks to arouse the collective memory identifying the sea with female territory and language, a space of support and knowledge and to encourage a process of release from the patriarchal attitudes continuing to exist in the collective unconscious and the mentality of Western Society.
