Individuation in Clinical Practice: Jungian Perspectives

Kerrie Kirkwood will use Jung’s observation that “It is not I who create myself, rather I happen to myself” as a point of departure to describe how an aspect of the theory of individuation can be used therapeutically.

She will draw on Jungian and post-Jungian theories as well as her own clinical material to illustrate the difference between an individual who appears to be working through the process of individuation, and someone who has authentically engaged with their unconscious, and as a result is living through the unfolding of their unique ‘happening’.

Kerrie will also speak about the foundational psychological structures which need to be in place for both patient and therapist to make it possible to work at this level.
