Introductory Weekend: Experience Group Analysis at IGA

This intensive Introductory Weekend offers a unique opportunity to experience group analysis. You will discover the benefits that a training course at the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) can provide for your professional role. Valuable insights into the dynamics of social and professional groups will enhance your effectiveness in any group setting.

Learning Objectives

During the weekend, participants will learn the fundamentals of the group analytic perspective. This will be achieved through participation in several experiential small and large groups, along with attending a theoretical lecture. You will explore how you relate to others in a group situation and how others perceive you.

The weekend is beneficial for anyone interested in understanding group dynamics on both professional and personal levels. Past participants have included psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health professionals, social services workers, managers, and team members from various fields.

The experiential nature of this course necessitates full attendance for the entire weekend.

Why Group Analysis?

Group Analysis is a powerful therapeutic medium. It focuses on the relationship between the individual and the group, emphasising the essential social nature of human experience. This approach highlights the emotional, behavioural, and psychological phenomena that emerge within all groups. Carefully constituted group analytic groups have a long history of assisting individuals with personal difficulties stemming from their original group, such as family and significant others. They also promote personal development.

The Group Analytic approach has profound implications for group work and organisational practice across various health, social, and educational settings. Our philosophy posits that personal difficulties often arise in groups; therefore, groups are the most effective environment to explore, understand, and resolve these issues.
