In 2020 the Philemon Foundation continued its commitment to making available the complete works of C. G. Jung by releasing another critical volume. On Theology and Psychology (Princeton University Press), edited by the Swiss historian Marianne Jehle- Wildberger, introduces the rich correspondence between Jung and Adolf Keller (1872-1963), Protestant pastor, theologian, and ecumenist.  Keller tirelessly searched for a bridge between depth psychology and pastoral theology, namely “Seelsorge,” the care of the soul, a passion shared also by Jung.

Join us as we explore their close and, at times, tense friendship.  The letters show us a side of Jung’s personality that one often does not see; they show how Jung’s ideas had a significant impact beyond the field of psychology and how religious and theological questions shaped Jung’s writings, particularly Answer to Job.

The Jung-Keller correspondence provides a fascinating window into Jung’s understanding of religion, faith, and the central place that religious experience holds in the work of individuation.
