This presentation will explore the interplay between music, feeling and our symbolic imagination. Through locating the role that acoustic images, both imaginal and material, play in our psyche, we will explore what music offers to our individuation process both personally and collectively.
Sound triggers psychic contents, evokes emotion and memory, and unites past and present, internal and external, in the now. Music is everywhere in our lives, but much of our musical ecosystem remains unheard and unconscious. Together we will listen deeply for what is emergent from the unconscious, hoping to hear what cannot yet be seen by the ego.
Drawing on Jungian, post-Jungian and contemporary psychoanalytic perspectives this seminar will explore the place music evokes within our psychic ecology. We will distill music into its basic archetypal elements and listen for the song of wholeness in ourselves and in the world.
