No one knows the source of music. It is a mystery whose origins are lost in the mists of mankind’s history on earth. We often do not consider the role it might play in our lives other than the pleasure we derive from listening. Music seems to be connected to the deep processes we call the spirit of life. C. G. Jung discovered that alchemy mirrored the process that he described as “individuation.” In this lecture, we will demonstrate that music is integral to both the alchemical process and the process of individuation and examine what that might look like in the psyche.
