For our next meeting, I would like to offer you, my queer siblings from around the world, an embodied space based on authentic movement (AM). AM is a contemplative movement practice which has evolved within the field of dance movement therapy, and been influenced by Jungian psychology and meditative practice. As in the discipline of mindfulness meditation, we seek to pay attention to our direct experience, moment by moment, witnessing the sensations, feelings, thoughts, images and movement impulses which arise into consciousness. Please have any art materials of your choice to draw/take some notes afterwards.
Samuele (or Sam in short) is a Drama and Movement Therapist based in Palermo, Sicily. Sam offers therapy and clinical supervision to queer adults as well as leading the LGBTQI+ Youth Counselling Service for Spectra CIC, London, UK. Sam’s trainings are underpinned by analytical/archetypal psychological perspectives reflecting a mythopoetic approach to the psyche. You may wonder if the process is a linear one, indeed, it is not. As Jung suggests ‘the way is not straight but appears to go round in circles’ (Jung, CW12, para.34)
