The Animus: An Exploration
This course will explore Jung’s concept of the animus: its meaning, its validity, and the implications of this archetype in the psychology of individuals. The ballad of Tam Lin, an old Scottish tale, will be used as an archetypal illustration of the animus. The course will be didactic and participatory, with the hope for an enriching dialogue about this complex and often disconcerting concept. An outline will be provided, a few readings will be suggested for enrichment, and participants will be invited to share thoughts, dreams, and feelings throughout the discussion.
