The Ensouled Cosmos

A Three-Part Series on Archetypal Astrology

“It is in the realm of the soul
that we find the heavens that govern the skies.”

–  Rumi

The study of archetypal astrology has proved to be of immense value for understanding the nature and the timing of the shifting archetypal dynamics in the individual and collective.  Through these constellations, we come to understand what Psyche is bringing into the world.  Stanislav Grof has called archetypal astrology the Rosetta stone of the psyche.

In the course of these presentations Richard Tarnas will discuss the essentials of the astrological perspective and its practice. We will explore in depth all of the major planetary archetypes, and set out the nature of the major alignments, the birth chart, personal transits, and world transits. Throughout the series we will address the remarkable ways in which astrology and Jungian psychology have proved to be mutually illuminating.

Like paying attention to weather reports before setting out to sail on a windy day, knowing one’s birth chart and transits can help us live both more thoughtfully and consciously as individuals, while also allowing us to discern the deeper evolutionary currents moving through history.

The astrological evidence suggests that the collective unconscious is ultimately embedded in the macrocosm itself, with the planetary motions a synchronistic cosmic reflection of the unfolding archetypal dynamics of human experience. The human psyche participates in an ensouled cosmos, the anima mundi, whose fundamental structures are archetypal.
