The Jung Society of Washington presents our annual celebration of the birthday of Carl Jung (July 24) with a free lecture by the internationally known and highly regarded Jungian author and analyst Dr. Lionel Corbett. Lionel Corbett trained in medicine and psychiatry in England and as a Jungian Analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago. Dr. Corbett is a professor of depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, in Santa Barbara, California. His primary interests are: the religious function of the psyche, especially the way in which personal religious experience is relevant to individual psychology; the development of psychotherapy as a spiritual practice; and the interface of Jungian psychology and contemporary psychoanalytic thought. Google him!

Our program is a free program and a fundraiser — a gift to all who need or want one and an expression of thanks to our Jung Society of Washington community.  We’re offering it free to people who want to dip their toes into Jung, but can’t commit, or to people who just need a free program for whatever reason.  These last few years we all just need a little support sometimes, and we want you to know that we are delighted and grateful to have you with us!

Jung’s discovery that the psyche contains an innate God-image, a divine essence, avoids many of the problems associated with anthropomorphic, patriarchal God-images. Using examples from people’s personal experiences, we will describe and discuss a variety of ways in which the Self manifests itself in dreams, visions, and synchronicities. We will also discuss Jung’s idea that the Self has a dark side that is responsible for suffering and evil, as well as describe the ways in which this contrasts with the Christian God-image.

These ideas are also explored in depth in Dr. Corbett’s most recent book, click here.
