When Carl Jung spoke of the “Spirit of the Depths” he was referring to the timeless world of archetypes and of a wisdom far surpassing the limitations of contemporary knowledge. This was the world that Jung and the original group of Jungian pioneers lived and thrived in. Equally, the life and work of Marie-Louise von Franz embodies the profundity of Psyche.
While these pioneers are long gone, their writing and spirit prevails. Fortunately for us, there are still a handful of Jungians fortunate enough to have worked and studied with them.
One of those is Dr. Hansueli Etter who, for more than 10 years, maintained a close friendship and collegial relationship with von Franz. His life was deeply touched and shaped by her wisdom, and he continues to carry the passions and wisdom of this world into ours. Not only is it the work of von Franz, but also the spirit that fueled her love and passion for Psyche that lives on in the heart and soul of Dr. Etter’s work.
