Jewel in the Lotus Transformative Processes in Tibetan Buddhism from a Psychoanalytic Perspective

Michael Monhart (M.A., S.T.M., LP) is a
psychoanalyst in private practice in the Hudson
Valley in New York State and is a faculty member
at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association and
the Blanton-Peale Institute. For decades, he has
immersed himself in contemplative practices of
Cistercian monasticism, Japanese Shingon
Buddhism, and most extensively, Tibetan
Buddhism. He is the author of “Into the Frog
Swamp: Jungian Conceptions of the
Unconscious in Practice” in The Unconscious
Refractions: Contemporary Psychoanalysis
Struggles with Its Source Object published in
2020 by Routledge. He has presented “The Path
of Individuation in Shingon Buddhism” at the
2016 Congress of the International Association
for Analytical Psychology and “Many Selves,
Many Others” at the 2019 Congress of the IAAP.
He is a Tibetan translator and is the co-editor
and translator of Enticements (SUNY 2018), the
short stories of the Tibetan author Pema
Tseden.
