Alchemy is usually thought of as a myth of the past, a confused and poetic germination from which modern sciences have risen. Marie-Louise von Franz, in a broadcast of France Culture in February 1978, « Le cri de Merlin », explains on the contrary that’alchemie, is a, this marriage of the’ spirit of Heaven with that of Earth, C’is the myth of future times. She sees this flow of’s and symbols, this process that continues today’ in the rhythms of’individuation over dreams, as the prophetic myth of the’age of Aquarius ; « […] For,’alchemy, c’is the language of matter, the language of’a domain where psyche and matter touch and that’s why, she says, she, that it’is especially a creative language ».
With the’essor of Deep Psychology and Quantum Physics for a century, all over the world of research, in, we are trying to find the’unity underlying the apparent division between matter and spirit. And many scientists have thus turned to’hindouism or Buddhism in their quest for meaning. Yet we inherited in the West this « myth of matter » developed, as early as the twelfth century, by alchemist philosophers on the feminine and receptive side of knowledge. In this perspective, the ancestral wisdom of the FAR East’ and shamanism join the ultramodern advances of quantum physics and the’individuation process of Jungian’analysis. Part 2:
The’opus which begins with the nigredo aims at the physical and psychic transformation of the’adept and its link with a principle that founds and animates it. What were the alchemists looking for ? The secret of matter, that of eternal life, a universal medicine, which could attenuate the moral tension between the opposites ?
In his full opening to the’unconscious Jung will go through the different stages and submit to the same dynamisms as those that’il will later find by immersing himself in their philosophy. We will strive to’extract from the BURNING’experience recounted in the Red Book, What could be operative for us today’hui. And to determine how the’erudition and the symbolic richness of the alchemical works of the second part of his work and in particular Mysterium conjunctionis, complete the life lessons and the psychospiritual exercises described in the Red Book.
We will emphasize the unitary perception which nourished the philosophy of the alchemists, the parallelism between the microcosm and the macrocosm and the double gaze which it imposes, both objective and meditative, and finally on the importance of the link with the soul of fashion in their conception of Salvation.
