Overview

In this 5-week reading course, participants will read and discuss Edward Edinger’s book, “The Eternal Drama: The Inner Meaning of Greek Mythology” — a Jungian commentary on the archetypal characters and themes of Greek myth.

Edinger brings his characteristic insight and brilliance to subjects including: Olympian gods (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Apollo, Hermes, Ares, Hephaestus), Olympian goddesses (Hera, Hestia, Demeter, Artemis, Aphrodite, Athena), Heroes (Heracles, Jason and Medea, Theseus and Ariadne); The Trojan War, Odysseus, the tragic drama of Oedipus, the wisdom of shrines and oracles, Dionysus, Orpheus and Orphism, and the Eleusinian mysteries.

Consideration of this text will launch our discussion of the relevance of timeless mythic themes to our own lives and the present times.
