This lecture introduces Peter Woodbury’s clinical hypnosis work and his development of a technique called “Soul Contact.” Drawing on over 25 years of practice, Peter will explore how hypnosis can invite clients into realms of awareness beyond ordinary waking consciousness, where insight, resolution, and healing often arise.
Peter will describe the theoretical foundations and practical structure of Soul Contact, explaining how the clinician serves as a kind of midwife—facilitating the emergence of whatever the “soul” wishes to bring into the client’s awareness. He will discuss the hypnosis underpinnings of this work, its placement within modern collaborative hypnosis, and why clients retain a clear sense of self throughout the process.
The lecture will also address safety, ethics, and spiritual protection, including Peter’s use of the Edgar Cayce–inspired Prayers of Protection. He will explain why prayer functions as a “cloak” of safety, much like a coat in winter, and how this framework supports ethical practice, including work conducted over video platforms such as Zoom.
Peter will speak candidly about emotional release, post-session integration, and common misconceptions about hypnosis, emphasizing that the worst that can happen is simply waking up. Ample time will be provided for questions.
