Your Programme at the San Francisco Jung Institute

A call for proposals for the 2027 to 2028 season

Have an idea for a seminar, workshop or conference that Jungians ought to hear? The Extended Education Committee of the C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco (CGJISF) is looking for programme proposals for the academic year from September 2027 to June 2028. The invitation is open to analysts, candidates, interns and staff of the Institute, colleagues from other Jungian institutes and societies, and Jungian scholars and educators from around the world. New voices are as welcome as familiar ones, and anyone may pass the announcement on to someone who might be interested.

The committee wants proposals that bring analytical psychology to the issues facing individuals and communities today. Suggested subjects include race and ethnicity, sexuality and gender identity, individuation across the life span, cultural diversity, health and illness, living and dying, belonging and alienation, violence and resilience, climate, political and economic matters, and the mythological roots of contemporary questions. It also welcomes creative topics that live outside the box. For clinical programmes it is especially interested in practical applications of Jungian concepts that build clinicians’ knowledge and competence, including work with culturally diverse and underserved populations. For non-clinical programmes it would like to see in-depth readings of Jung or post-Jungian literature, and subjects such as the soul in the world, the arts, dreams, alchemy, active imagination and cultural complexes as they are lived today.

Proposals can take the form of seminars, workshops, conferences or experiential programmes, running from half a day to a full year. The Institute can offer them in person, online, in a hybrid format, or as pre-recorded webinars, and asks proposers to say which they prefer. The committee reviews each submission for relevance, organisation, and the presenter’s knowledge and experience.

The firm deadline for the September 2027 to June 2028 calendar is Friday 15 January 2027, and proposals are made through the Institute’s online form, which you can access here. Questions, or a concept you’d like to talk through, can go to Public Programs Coordinator Roland Martin at Programs@sfjung.org or to any member of the committee, chaired by Carolyn H. Bray.

The Jungian Drift

For a look at the Institute’s own story, The Jungian Drift, a podcast made by analytical training candidates at CGJISF, has just released an interview with alumna and analyst emerita Sally Kaufmann, MD. She began her Jungian journey in the 1960s, when women were still a novelty in the Institute’s programme, and trained with local figures including Joseph Henderson, Joseph Wheelwright and Kay Bradway. She also brought her Jungian outlook to directing a community mental health clinic, as well as to her analytic private practice. You can listen to the episode below.
